Obituary of Anna Groseclose

MARION, VIRGINIA: ANNA GWYN SMALLWOOOD GROSECLOSE, 60, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Mark Reid Groseclose, of Marion, Virginia; three children, Brooke Groseclose, of Arlington, Virginia, Reid Groseclose, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Chase Groseclose, of Richmond, Virginia. Other survivors include her mother Mary Smallwood, of Kingsport, Tennessee; her sister and brother-in-law Carol Smallwood and Glenn Franks, of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and two nieces, Ashleigh Curtis of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Paige Franks of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her father, Charles Smallwood, preceded her in death. A native of Kingsport, Tennessee, Gwyn attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She and Mark returned to his home town of Marion, Virginia, in 1979, where she became an active member of First United Methodist Church and a teacher in the Smyth County school system, most recently teaching 8th grade math at Marion Middle School. She leaves behind her loving family and many dear friends, colleagues, and students in the Marion community. Visitation will be held at Seaver Brown Funeral Home on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jonathan Jonas officiating on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O.
