Obituary of Layne Pennington
MARION, VIRGINIA: LAYNE PENNINGTON, age 56, died Thursday, September 30, 2004 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He attended Royal Oak Presbyterian Church. He was born September 10, 1948 in Smyth County. Layne was the son of Lola Cress Pennington and the late Jay C. Pennington. He was a graduate of Marion Senior High School, received an Associate Degree from Bluefield College and a B.S. Degree from Old Dominion University. He worked at Parks-Belk in Marion, Brunswick Corporation and District Three Government Cooperative. Layne loved people and especially loved to make them laugh. He was a loving son, husband, brother and best friend to his wife, Diannah. He loved all animals with a special love of dogs. He is survived by his wife, Diannah G. Pennington of Marion, Virginia; his mother, Lola Cress Pennington of Marion, Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Pennington and wife, Linda and David Pennington and wife, Karen all of Marion, Virginia; one sister, Denise Harris of Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Malinda Gilbert and husband, Butch of Herndon, Virginia; several nieces and nephews, Harvey Gilbert and wife, Francine, Will Gilbert and wife, Christene, Michael Pennington, Amy Thompson and husband, Jamie, Amanda Harris, Joseph Harris, Allen Pennington and Leigh Ann Pennington; Several aunts, uncles and cousins, including a special cousin, Robbie Romans and wife, Leigh. Graveside Services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Troutdale Cemetery, Troutdale, Virginia with Rev. Alan Gray officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to District Three Home Repair Program, 4453 Lee Highway, Marion, Virginia 24354 or to the Lincoln Theatre, Inc., P.O. Box 664, Marion, Virginia 24354. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
