Obituary of Ila Thompson
MARION, VIRGINIA: ILA BUCHANAN MAXEY THOMPSON, age 72, died Monday, June 21, 2010 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia.
Ila was born and raised in Smyth County, Virginia. She was a wonderful, sweet person who enjoyed sewing and quilting and loved bowling. She was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James M. and Mattie Ferguson Buchanan; her first husband, George C. Maxey; her second husband, Ted B. Thompson; and brother James W. "Jimmy" Buchanan.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn B. Stamper and husband, Robert of Marion Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson Buchanan of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Joanna Maxey Asbury of Knoxville, Tennessee; five nieces and nephews, Mark Buchanan and wife Diane, Steven Buchanan and wife Shannon, Patti S. Dunford and husband Tex, Annette S. Kestner and husband Jason and Karen L. Stamper; and many other special family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Mark Lundy and Reverend Ryan Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley, Virginia. The family will receive friends, Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
