Obituary of Howard Parks
ATKINS, VIRGINIA: HOWARD HENDERSON PARKS, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Grayson County, June 27, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sena Parks, Wytheville and a brother, Ralph Parks of Dublin, Virginia. Howard and Doris operated Atkins Grocery in Atkins for more than 30 years. He then made many friends with their business, Parkway Gas, in Marion. They retired in September 2007. Howard loved car racing, working with the public, and spending time with his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Vogt Parks of Atkins, Virginia; a son, Allan Parks of Marion, Virginia; a daughter and son-in-law, Lindy P. and Justin White of Marion, Virginia; three grandchildren, Ashley Parks and Tori and Garrett White; one sister, Beulah Parks Minor and her husband, Harold of Dickson, Tennessee; two brothers, Joe Parks and his wife, Patsy of Galax, Virginia and Curtis Parks and his wife, Eleanor of Crockett, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Betty Campbell and husband, LeRoy of Atkins, Virginia and Francis Wyatt of Glade Spring, Virginia; a special aunt, Ruth Etter of Wytheville, Virginia; Ashley's mother, Dixie Parks of Marion, Virginia; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special caregiver, Ruby Cassell of Marion, Virginia.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend William Schoeneman, Jr. and Reverend Harry Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia where Military Rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 389, Atkins, Virginia 24311.
