Obituary of Eugene Lowman

SUGAR GROVE, VIRGINIA: EUGENE LOWMAN, age 87, died January 7, 2009 at his home. He was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted May 19, 1942 and served in the US Army with the 3606 Ordance Co. in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1945 as a Sgt. Technician Forth Grade. He loved farming and auto mechanics. He retired from D.G. Mouldings in 1983 after working there 15 years. He was a faithful member of Valley View Baptist Church serving the Lord with many jobs in the church. He was ordained a deacon on April 29, 1961. He also served as a Sunday School Superintendent, a teen Sunday School Teacher, a Senior Adult Sunday School teacher for 40 years, and a treasurer for 27 years. He was considered one of the back logs of our church and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sadie Martin Lowman of Sugar Grove, Virginia; one daughter, Lois Robinson and husband Johnny of Marion, Virginia; two sons, Donald Lowman of Sugar Grove, Virginia, and Ronald Lowman and wife Rita of Tannersville, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Joe Robinson and wife Angie, George Robinson and wife Jill, Tammy Bell and husband Jamie, Charlene Kirk and husband Joey, Julie Clark and late husband, Keith, Kate Lowman, and Travis Lowman; ten great-grandchildren, Cameron Kirk, Kayla Bell, Megan Robinson, Austin Kirk, Kasey Robinson, Katelyn Robinson, Alexander Robinson, Benjamin Clark, Samuel Clark, and Hunter Robinson; seven brothers, Jack Lowman and wife Helen, Monticello, Indiana, Walter Lowman and wife Dorothy of Lexington, South Carolina, Larry Lowman and wife Bonnie of Indianapolis, Indiana, David Lowman of Melbourne, Florida, Ray Lowman and wife, Phyllis of Bel Air, Maryland, Ralph Kirk and wife Ennis of Salem Virginia, and James Kirk and wife Pauline of Christiansburg, Virginia; seven sisters, Hazel Smallwood of Norman, Indiana, Viola Sparks of Santa Maria, California, Norma Jean Whitehead of San Diego, California, Pauline Pickle and husband Robe of Marion, Virginia, Opal Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia, Helen Barnes of Marion, Virginia, Charlotte Childress and husband James of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Carol Caldwell and husband Mick of Bluefield, West Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Helen Lowman of Columbus, Indiana and Judith Lowman of Edinburg, Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conley Martin Lowman and Beulah Sheets Lowman Kirk; step-father, Glen Kirk; stepmother, Mary Lowman; daughter, Linda Lowman; brothers, Reggie Lowman, Frank Lowman, Charles Lowman, Bobby Lowman, James Donald Lowman, Lloyd Lowman, Willie Kirk, Charles Kirk, Hobert Kirk; sisters, Stella Francis Lowman, Mary Lee Lowman Kirk, Faye Lowman, Katherine Kirk Stone, Blanche Kirk Griffitts, Gladys Kirk Ferguson, and Bertha Lee Kirk Simmons. Special thanks to, Mountain States Home Care, Hospice of Southwest Virginia, and Dr. Clampitt and his staff. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Frost and Mr. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Slemp Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post # 4667. The family will receive friends Friday, January 9, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion, Virginia Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.seaverbrown.com.
