Obituary of Joseph Mitchell

RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA: JOSEPH WOODS MITCHELL, SR., age 81, died on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the James H. Quillen Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was born in Marion, Virginia and was employed by N.V.F. in Yorklin, Delaware where he worked for 39 years as a machinist. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He attended the First Church of God Atkins, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Adams Mitchell, his parents, William and Bessie Rotenberry Mitchell and two brothers, Alf and Frazier Mitchell. He is survived by three sons, Joseph W. Mitchell, Jr., and wife, Kay of Rural Retreat, Virginia, W. Kenny Mitchell and wife, Sherri of Oxford, Pennsylvania, and Bruce A. Mitchell and wife, Linda of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Audrey L. Mortzfield and husband, Barry of Downingtown, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Ann Ross of Willowstreet, Pennsylvania, Margaret Phillips of Placerville, California and Alberta Hawthorne of Marion, Virginia; three brothers, Bob Mitchell of Kentucky, Glen Mitchell of Marion, Virginia and Charles Mitchell of Unionville, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Nouhad Melki and the Rev. Charlie Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Valley Cemetery, Konnarock, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of God, 6118 Lee Highway, Atkins, Virginia. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at James H.
