Obituary of James Whisman
MARION, VIRGINIA: JAMES "DUDE" WHISMAN, age 82, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He attended Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Mr. Whisman was retired from Southwest State Hospital after 27 years and was also a long time employee of the Bank of Marion.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline A. Whisman of Marion, Virginia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Janice Whisman of Marion, Virginia, and Bob and Anne Whisman of Marion, Virginia; one sister, Catherine Peake of Timonium, Maryland; four grandchildren, Michelle Owens and husband, Steve of Roanoke, Virginia, Brandy Fisher and husband, Kevin of Cosby, Tennessee, Crissy Martin and husband, Josh of Marion, Virginia, and Timmy Whisman of Marion, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Reagan, Alysa, Alex and Elijah; several nieces and nephews, and special pets, Tori and Max also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The Family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the TV Ministry of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church Fund, 442 Freedom Tabernacle Lane, Atkins, Virginia 24311.
