Obituary of Annette Gailliot
ANNETTE ADELE WELCKER GAILLIOT, of Marion, Virginia, died on August 28, 2007, in Fresno, California, following a long illness. She traveled to California on July 2 to bid farewell to her dying son and was unable to return home. Mrs. Gailliot was born March 19, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Hans Theodor Georg Welcker and Martha Wilhelmina Waltermann Welcker, both of whom immigrated to the United States from Germany prior to World War II. She spent her early years in Brooklyn, New York, and Alexandria, Virginia, graduating from high school from Cathedral School for Girls in New York City. Mrs. Gailliot attended Hunter College in New York, and following completion of her husband's medical training, she attended Emory & Henry College and received a bachelors degree from Radford University.
Mrs. Gailliot and her family moved to Marion, Virginia, in 1970, a place she dearly loved and considered her home. She was an avid and passionate reader, and was a volunteer with the local adult literacy program. She especially loved her children, grandchildren, and her German Shepard, Heidi.
Mrs. Gailliot was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Rose Marie Welcker, her husband of 42 years, Robert Vernon Gailliot, Sr., and her son, Robert Vernon Gailliot, Jr., who died July 11, 2007. She is survived by three children, Elizabeth M. Gailliot and husband Patton Graham of Marion, Virginia, Ursula Gailliot Koeze and husband Todd Koeze of Charlottesville, Virginia, Christopher R. Gailliot and wife Bethany Gailliot of Wilmington, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Lisa Joan Crews and husband Brett Yates of Fresno, California, ten grandchildren, Alec, Ade, Grae, Princeton, Robert, Greta, Robert, Emma, Ann, and Sam, niece Yvonne Welcker Sepulveda of Miami, Florida, two brothers-in-law of Alexandria, Virginia, Clemens S. Gailliot, Jr. and wife Patricia R. Gailliot, and Thomas H. Gailliot, Sr. and wife, Betty Ann Gailliot, sister-in-law, Theresa A. Gailliot of Burke, Virginia, several cousins, nieces and nephews, special friends Wayne and Florence Funk, and special care giver, Bonnie Greer of Atkins, Virginia.
Mrs. Gailliot's family would like to especially acknowledge the compassion and care provided her during her illness by Hinds Hospice, Lisa Crews, Brett Yates, and David Carona, all of Fresno, California.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marion, Virginia, on Wednesday, September 5, at 11:00 a.m., with a Burial and Committal Service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances in memory of Mrs. Gailliot may be made to Hinds Hospice, 1616 West Shaw Avenue, Fresno, California 93711.
