Obituary of Jack Kirby
MARION, VIRGINIA: JACK KIRBY, age 70, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at his home in Marion, Virginia. He had worked for Harwood Manufacturing Company for many years. As a lover of the outdoors, an avid hiker and backpacker, he had volunteered several of his post retirement years to the National Forest Service. Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Francis Kirby and an infant daughter, Kathy Kirby. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Tilson and fiancé, Boyd Smith of Powhatan, Virginia and Alice Kirby of Independence, Oregon; One son and daughter-in-law, John and Kelly Kirby of Roanoke, Virginia; His mother, Olive Foster Kirby of Marion, Virginia. One sister and brother-in-law, Jane and John Willis of Richlands, Virginia; One brother and sister-in-law, John D. and Janet Kirby of Marion, Virginia; One grandson and wife, William and Jessica Tilson of Chilhowie, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia with Rev. Alan Gray officiating. Immediately following the service the family will receive friends at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Museum of the Middle Appalachians, P.O. Box 910, Saltville, Virginia 24370.
