Tom and Family, My sister, Linda told me about Joyce. I hold fond memories of Joyce from high school Latin class when she first moved to Marion. She was a beautiful spirit! Linda and Joyce were dear friends that could always pick up just where they left off from visit to visit. We should treasure our "visits" often. Just know that you & your family are in my prayers! Please give my love to your mother, she was so very kind to my mother over the years. With love, Libby

Mrs. Untiedt was my civics teacher, and I also spent time with her in Tri-hi-Y. She was one of my favorite teachers, and I know she was the favorite of many. I loved the way that she always had the students best interest in mind. Her only agenda was to equip her students with more understanding. She will be greatly missed. Her family will be in our prayers, as we pray for God to give strength during this time.

I just wanted to extend my condolences to Mrs. Untiedt's family. I, too, had her as a teacher for Gov't my senior year. The thing that always stood out about her was how much she wanted to get to know us not only as her student in a desk but as a person outside of the classroom. She was such a caring teacher. She encouraged me to apply for a certain scholarship that I thought I had no chance at. She even read over my essay for me. I got that scholarship and it was Mrs. Untiedt who helped me to believe in myself enough to try for it. I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with the entire family. CHS class of 1997

Jason, I am truly sorry that your mother's life ended so young. I know if she could speak to us, she would say that her greatest accomplishment would be that she was the mother to two fine sons. We have not had contact since you were in my third grade class and I am so happy to learn that you are an educator too. Anybody can be a teacher but not everyone can teach. Your mother was dedicated and did not mind going the extra mile for her students. May you have that same dedication. May God bless you and your family. Bonnie Scyphers

I am unable to make it to the funeral service of Mrs. Untiedt. I remember seeing her angelic face since I was about 11, playing soccer. When I transfered to Chilhowie High, it was to my knowledge she was a teacher. She would ask how my family and I were doing, and always a friendly "Hi" we'd share with one another. I had made an elephant in art class that she used for a door stopper. I totally regret asking for it back. Maybe I can replace it to leave the doors of heaven open for her. I'll never forget you. :)

Dear Tom and Sons, I want you to know I am thinking of you at this time. I know your hearts ache so much with the loss of your beloved Joyce. She was certainly a sweet and wonderful person, all anyone had to do to know that was to meet and talk with her. You may not remember me, (I am Janice and Anne's sister in NC). I have been in touch with them and kept up with your week. Please know many prayers are with all of you, and the rest of your family. Sincerely, Mickey Parlier

Mrs. Untiedt was my government teacher during my senior year. I will always remember that she taught me that I could be anything I wanted if I just set my mind to do it. I am now a teacher, and I owe a major part of my success to her. I was greatly saddened by her passing, as our profession has lost a superb role model, as well as a dedicated wife and mother, I am sure. May God be with you and may He see you through this difficult time in your lives. (Phil. 4:13)

Ms. Untiedt was such a special person to me. During my very rough Senior year at CHS, she comforted me and told me I had not ruined my life but only altered it. I was pregnant when I graduated and those simple words gave me the courage to face one more day. Thinking of you in your time of great loss. My son Wesley Clarke is a student at CHS, and we just resently lost his father and my husband on Dec. 17, 2003, suddenly. Everyone will say in time, in time your sorrow will ease and your pain. I will not tell you this for I still do not know that. I can tell you that god cares for you all and he never leaves you all alone. Mrs. Untiedt will continue to live in your hearts until one day you join her in the wonderful new home where one never has to separate again, until then as my children and I do, we must trust in god and continue to do what the lord has planned for each of us. May god richly bless and keep you safe, healthy and in his care, always. Love, jackie, Wesley, Dani, and Carrie Brooke Clarke

I am sorry for your loss. Mrs. Untiedt was an excellent teacher, and a very caring person. I loved her very much. I also had her for Government last year. At times she made us laugh but also she knew she had to make us learn the Government text so we could graduate. Everytime that I would pass her in the halls she would always speak. I hardly ever watched the news or read the newspaper before I had her as a teacher because I used to think it was really boring, until she showed me that it wasn't boring, but interesting. Thanks to her showing me that, I try to keep updated on what is going on in our country. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. She will be missed dearly to those who knew her.

I am a former student of Mrs. Untiedt. I was in her homeroom for five years. She was a great inspiration to me. She helped me find my way and live my dreams. I wanted to become a teacher and she helped me by writing recommendations for college. She also gave me recommendations when I got my teaching job. With her support, I was able to follow my dreams and make them a reality. I'll never forget her for that! She made a difference in my life and for that I am thankful. I saw her not long ago at Lowe's in Wytheville. I was afraid she wouldn't remember me. Instead, she smiled and hugged me. We talked for a few minutes. She was the same caring woman that I knew in high school. I will never forget her and I will miss her. Our high school reunion is coming up this summer. It will be a sad time not to have Mrs. Untiedt with us. Now, she can look down on all of us and guide us. My sympathy goes out to all of her family and friends. May God be with you.
