Obituary of Nancy McDonald
MARION, VIRGINIA; NANCY F. McDONALD, 78, died on December 17th, in Gainesville, Florida.
Ms. McDonald was born October 22, 1927, in Bristol, Virginia. She was a graduate of both Marion High School and Marion Junior College. She went on to get a Bachelor's degree from Hood College in Frederick, MD in 1949. She did graduate work at Richmond Polytechnic Institute (Richmond, Virginia) and later earned a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Nancy devoted her professional life to social work and child psychiatry. She was a social worker for welfare departments in both Smyth County and Danville, Virginia. She also worked in child development at Duke University. She spent many years at the University of Florida, where she was Chief Psychiatric Social Worker for the Division of Child Psychiatry, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. She retired from the University of Florida in 1984. Nancy established the Sol Kramer Lecture Series at Penn State University, which brings visiting scholars to the Penn State campus to lecture on topics in ethology, biology, and human developmental genetics.
She is survived by one sister, Jean McDonald Joyce, of Erie, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her nephew, Philip Joyce, his wife, Rita Hilton, and their three children, all of Arlington, Virginia.
A graveside service will be conducted at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Marion, Virginia on Wednesday, December 21st at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. James H. Bangle officiating.
