As Betty’s half-brother (we had the same father), I have many good memories of her. One of the earliest of these is Betty and John Tate’s visits to visit my family in Welch, W. Va in the early 1950s. We played canasta for hours and caught up on the family news.
In 1954 my family moved to California, and over the next 67 years, I saw Betty and her family only intermittently. When my wife, Karen, and I visited them in Marion, Betty and John treated us like royalty. We also got to enjoy Betty’s legendary garlic grits.
Betty and John made trips to California, and we had a great time with them. I particularly remember them taking us for a wonderful Italian Dinner in San Francisco.
Betty was a very special person, who was intelligent, generous, and caring. I will miss our phone conversations.
Karen and I send our deepest condolences to her family.

Prayers for the Tate family and friends.
Mrs. Tate was my favorite teacher (4th grade)!! She introduced us all to life, loving to live life through learning. And she introduced me to John Steinbeck in reading “The Pearl”. She was a great blessing in my life, and I’ll not forget her.❤️
