Obituary of Ronald "Ronnie" Houck
CERES, Va.
Ronald “Ronnie” Houck, died Friday, January 1, 2021 at age 78.
Ronnie was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 4, 1942 to George T. Houck of Ashe County, North Carolina and Dorothy (Beep) Hubble Houck of Smyth County, Virginia. As an infant, Ronnie moved to the farming community of Ceres, Virginia. There Ronnie grew-up with a younger sister, Donna Houck (Compton) and younger brother, Edd Houck. Ronnie attend school in Ceres graduating in 1959. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy M. Umberger for thirty-one years with whom he had two children, Russell and Rhonda. Ronnie resided in Fredericksburg, Virginia for forty-five years and returned to his beloved of Ceres in 2016. Ronnie retired as Construction Superintendent having built a number of roads, airport runways, water and sewer lines, and bridges in Northern Virginia.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, a nephew, Todd Houck and a niece, Greta Houck.
Ronnie is survived by his loving children, son, Russell Houck of Culpeper, Virginia; daughter, Rhonda Houck-Morofsky and husband, Bryan of Fredericksburg, Virginia; four adoring granddaughters, Ashley and Kaitlin Vose and Macie and Livvie Houck; brother, Edd Houck and wife, Dana of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two nieces, Missy Compton Thompson and Beth Compton Stover and their families; ex-wife Dorothy Umberger-Houck and her family with whom he was quite fond. He will be greatly missed by a host of cousins and friends.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a celebration of Ronnie’s life will take place Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Ceres School Gym (Ceres Community Center), 43 Ruritan Drive, Ceres, Va. 24318.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Ceres Alumni Association, P.O. Box 32 Ceres, Va. 24318.
