Obituary of Christopher Neal Hammond

MARION, Va.

Christopher Neal Hammond, age 52, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Chris was just Chris, complicated yet simple. He grew up in Marion, attended Marion Baptist Church, graduated and went into the U. S. Navy where he served on the USS Moosbrugger. Chris loved his country and his President. He was proud of his service. He enjoyed his metal music and wanted everyone else to enjoy it as well. While working with Dish Network, he could use his gift for  technology. Chris had a great sense of humor and loved his family, friends and God. His faith was strong. In his life Chris did many things, but his proudest accomplishment was the birth and life of his son, Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Todd Saufley.

Chris is survived by his son, Tyler Grant Hammond of Ceres, Va.; mother, Ann Saufley and husband, Richard of Marion, Va.; father, Vince Hammond of The Villages, Fla.; Sisters, Cheryl Hammond of Fairfax, Va. and Jackie Saufley Smith and husband, Jeremiah of Sugar Grove, N.C.; step-brother, Chris Saufley and wife, Kimberly of Draper, Va.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and best friend and girlfriend, Caroline Dickson of Marion, Va.
