Dear Mrs Powell and Family,
It is with great sadness that I learn of Mr Powell’s passing. I will always hold in my heart both his, yours, and your family’s friendship, love, concern and compassion for us and everyone who ever met you folks. I was honored, mentored and befriended by this wonderful man who I first met as one of my ScoutMasters at the Lutheran Church in Marion. Va. I am distressed to learn that Bob (I knew him in grade school as Robert) has left us.
Although he and I had only brief contact as adults (MHS 1960 class reunions), we were the closest of friends in fifth grade. He and I shared many things during those years - we were both interested in sailing ships and we both built models of ships - he built a model of the Flying Cloud a more ambitious project than I could achieve.
We connected like no one else our class.
A few years ago, after a class reunion, he and I reconnected as I learned he was once again in the business of ship models.
I have very warm memories of his friendship, he was at that time my very best friend.
