Obituary of Danny Lee "Chico" Cress, Jr.
MARION, Va.
Danny Lee “Chico” Cress, Jr., age 46, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Francis Marion Manor.
Danny or Chico as most of the world knows of Marion’s Number One Fan was a man full of energy, a work ethic for days, typically too much Mountain Dew and a love for every sport that Marion Senior High School offered. Chico had a number one player for each team too. He could tell you how each play went or possibly should have been played! His memory was unbelievable. Not only did he know the past weeks play, but he remembered players and scores from the 80’s and beyond. It didn’t matter the wins or losses, Danny was Marion’s Number One Fan no matter what. Danny was quite the entrepreneur as well, from candy bars to loads of wood, he was always willing to make a deal. He had a love for the Big Red Machine and the Green Machine. Danny would always find a way to the game or the yard sale, either by foot or his John Deere tractor. Chico had a way of bringing the crowd to their feet at just the right time. His presence and passion for all things Hurricane will be missed and talked about for years to come, but I’m sure in the hearts and memories of all the fans on just the right night, many will faintly hear Marion’s Number Fan yelling, Get On Your Feet!
