Libby was my mother's next door neighbor for 9 years. She was such a good friend, and was so helpful to my sister and me during our mother's final illness. I am going to miss her.

My wife Carol Burruss and I have been neighbors of Libby Prater in a patio homes development in Christiansburg for about twelve years. She has been the model of a good neighbor not only to us, but to all the residents in Windsong Heights. She knew everyone, expressed concern for their welfare, shared vegetables from her garden, and distributed candied apples at the Christmas season. In nice weather, she would sit in front of her house and greet friends as they passed. inquiring of them the welfare of other neighbors not heard from for awhile. Her unfailing good nature and unique sense of humor made her a favorite of all.
Some years ago, my work responsibilities took me to Smyth County frequently, and Libby and I spent a good deal of time here talking happily of common acquaintances or scenes in the vicinity of Marion or Sugar Grove. If there was something in the Marion paper that she thought would interest me, she would wave to me from her front door and give me whatever she has saved for me. All of us here loved and admired Libby and will miss her sorely. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and Smyth County friends.

We really enjoyed visiting with your mother. She was always quick with a joke. We will miss
talking with her while sitting on the bench in front of her house.
