Obituary of Lloyd Vicars
MARION, VIRGINIA: Lloyd D. Vicars Jr, 84 residing in Clarksville, Tennessee passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Signature Healthcare of Clarksville.
Lloyd battled dementia for several years, and while it struck his mind, it never robbed him of his compassionate heart. He was born January 19th, 1931 in Kingsport, Tennessee to Lloyd D. Vicars Sr, and Mabel Bowen Vicars. He was a 1950 Graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport Tennessee, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts from East Tennessee State University in 1956. Lloyd enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard in November 1948 while a high school student. He served until September 1950 when he was activated, and served with the First U.S. Army at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, until May 1952 when he was discharged. He then again served in the Tennessee Army National Guard from October 1953 until October 1956 when he was discharged having reached the rank of Master Sergeant.
Lloyd moved to Marion Virginia, and began teaching Industrial Arts in 1956. He taught hundreds of students in his 38 year career there, and retired in 1994. A lifelong avid fisherman and hunter who loved the streams and mountains of southwest Virginia, Lloyd remained in Marion after his retirement until 2011 when he moved to Clarksville Tennessee and, the home of son David Vicars.
