Mr. Waak was our mail carrier on Keller Lane for many years during my childhood. He was always friendly and smiling and enjoying his route. Once, my mom and I came home and couldn't get the car up the steep driveway in the snow and ice. Mr. Waak happened by and we told him we were stuck. He said he'd love to help but he wasn't allowed to do that type of thing while on the job. He left but returned a few minutes later and said, "I don't listen to their other rules, why should I listen to that one?" And he actually got in our car and drove it up the driveway for us. Though that was nearly 30 years ago, I have never forgotten that kindness or his lively personality. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Rebecca (Johnston)Horvath and family Johnson City, TN

Dear Waak Family, So very sorry to hear of the recent loss of your dearly loved one. He will be missed by many. May the God of Comfort be with each of you during this most difficult time. Death is our enemy and one day our Heavenly Father will 'swallow up death forever,' what a wonderful promise. (Isaiah 25:8) Until this promise is fulfilled, I hope all the wonderful memories that were shared help sustain you in the days to come. Christian Love

Having grown up in Cumberland Heights, I have known Max and all of you all forever. Max was a treasure to so many people because he truly cared about us all. He delivered mail to the Dalton Street address for many years. When I lived away from Marion, I knew Max would always keep an eye on mother's well being - because that's the kind of guy he was!! I hope each of you will find strength to do without him. Gengie

Dear Judy, Johnny and Jill, Wow, 32 years ago we met the Waak family as Ed started at the Post Office. What a lot of wonderful memories we have. So many card games around your kitchen table with Gretchen in her "bouncy seat" and Ed fussing at me because I was and still am so bad at cards. Even though we hadn't been back in the area long you all took us under your wings and made us feel at home. Horseshoes and get-togethers were always hilarious and Judy, you and I had our hands full many times !!! Gretchen remembers Max picking her up and carrying her around and Marshall and Tyler remember Max showing them how to throw a horseshoe - even though Tyler could hardly lift one up. We could go on and on with many, many stories - but through the years when we ran into Max in town - the first thing he would ask was about our kids - he followed each one of them through their sports careers and then after - and was always sincere with his interest. We will miss him dearly - there are not many friends that you can say are true friends - friends that you don't have to see or talk to everyday -but you know they're always there. All of you are in our prayers - Judy, Max was a special man and he will always hold a special place in our hearts and you know we are here if you need anything. Johnny and Jill, we will always love your dad and know how very proud he was of both of you. God Bless always, Eddie, Kim, Gretchen, Marshall and Tyler
