Obituary of Evelyn Fenyk

Fenyk, Evelyn Maxine Crawford of Marion, VA and St. Petersburg, FL. Born in Sabetha, KS May 30, 1924. Died in St. Petersburg, FL Feb. 21, 2012. The only child of Roy Otis Crawford and Flora Vernon Mark, Maxine was a 1946 journalism graduate of Kansas State University. On Feb. 3, 1946, she married John Raymond Fenyk, DVM - they were" as close as pages in a book" for 54 years, until John's death in Feb., 2000. They settled in Marion, Va. and for more than 30 years, Maxine worked beside John in his veterinary practice. They had five children who will deeply miss Mother. Maxine was an avid reader and life-long learner - for more than 50 years she took classes on topics ranging from the Classics and religion to cooking and small engine repair. When she could no longer attend class in person, she read the Great Books series and listened to the Great Courses lectures. Maxine became a genealogy expert and through her efforts, brought family together from around the world. She loved music of all kinds, but especially jazz and opera. She loved to dance and took every opportunity to do so. Maxine was President of the Marion Chapter of the A.A. U. W. in the 1970's and as a journalist, wrote many health-related magazine articles. Spunky and spirited, she was always willing to express her opinions and thoughts about most any topic and readily defended her position against any challenge. With all of her accomplishments, the role she relished the most was that of mother and grandmother. She was extremely proud of the achievements of her family. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and daughter-in-law, Sharon Lynn Fenyk. She is survived by children John R. Fenyk, Jr (Dianne) of Minneapolis, MN; Royann Michele Fenyk-King (Mitch King) of Alexandria, VA; Cynthia Sue Fenyk( Frank Courtney) of St. Petersburg; Judith Evelyn Fenyk-Melody (David Melody) of Seattle, WA and Mark Brach Fenyk of Marion. Grandchildren Heather Fenyk (Alex Zakrewsky), Juliet Fenyk (Todd Billadeau), Jack Courtney, Marin Courtney, Faith Anne Fenyk, Austin Melody and Dylan Melody. Great granddaughters, Maya Fenyk, Sophia Billadeau and Sage Billadeau. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Walter and Rita Fenyk. Niece Cate Scully; nephews Rob Fenyk, Don Fenyk, Todd Scully and Dale Scully. Cousins Mark, Jerry and Leni Lahr and Ethyl Longenecker.
