Obituary of Donald Hammer

MARION, VIRGINIA: DONALD GORDON HAMMER, age 61, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at his home in Marion. He was born January 21, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York to the late David Marshall and Doris Tweten Hammer. He received his undergraduate and Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Don was an avid Tarheel fan and had a successful law practice in Marion for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife Denise Anne Hoots of Marion, Virginia; one daughter, Marshall Kelly Hammer of Asheville, North Carolina; one son, William Andrew Hammer of Marion, Virginia; the mother of his children, Mary Lynn Hammer of Brooksville, Florida; sister, Doreen Hammer Mabe and husband G. Mike Mabe of Pfafftown, North Carolina; two brothers, Davidson Eugene Hammer and wife Teri Woelfling Hammer of Greensboro, North Carolina and Duane Robert Hammer and wife Kim Decker Hammer of Union Hall, Virginia; two step-daughters, Adrian Rector and Briana Rector, both of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive. A gathering will be held in his honor Friday, August 26, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, Virginia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of his mother to Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
