Obituary of Betty Cress
Betty Lou Naff Cress of Charlottesville, VA, beloved wife of Roy Lee Cress, died Sunday, June 19, 2011.
Born March 27, 1936 in Marion, VA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee Naff and the late Emma Lou Heldreth Naff. Mrs. Cress was a retired homemaker, having raised two children with her husband of nearly fifty-three years. She was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Walter Thomas, in 1962. After an extended illness and loving care from her husband and best friend, Betty Lou was called to the Ivory Palaces of her favorite hymn.
Also surviving is a son, Roy Lee Cress, Jr. and his wife Wendi Elisabeth Ruschmann of Charlottesville, and a daughter, Kimberlyn Cress Lancaster and her husband Paul Dayton Lancaster of Millboro, VA; a brother, Joseph William Naff and his wife Betty Blevins Naff of Marion; three sisters, Shirley Naff Snider also of Marion, Joan Naff Norris and her husband Dallas Fulton Norris, Jr. of Troutville, VA, and Becky Naff Branson of Wytheville, VA; four grandchildren: Jason Paul Lancaster and his wife Hillary Helland Lancaster of Newport, VA, William Lee Cress and Austin Karl Cress, both of Charlottesville, and Alyson Lancaster Childrey and her husband Paul Anthony Childrey of Lynchburg, VA. Mrs. Cress is also survived by a step-daughter, Janella Johnson of Orlando, FL, and two brothers-in-law, James Louis Cress of Atkins, VA, and Raymond Roger Cress and his wife Brenda of Marion.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday June 21 at Hill & Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday June 22 at Jefferson Park Baptist Church in Charlottesville, conducted by the Rev. Keith Goad and the Rev. Robert Sherrard. Family and friends will then gather at the Seaver-Brown funeral home in Marion at 5:00 pm on June 22, and proceed to the Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion for a graveside service.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
