Obituary of Edgar Cress
EDGAR RANDOLPH CRESS, age 84, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was retired from Southwestern State Hospital with 33 ½ years of service. Mr. Cress loved all aspects of farming and especially loved Grayson County where he was born and raised. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred W. Cress; his parents, Bertha Blackburn and Wiley "Bud" Cress; two sisters, Josie Irene Hash and Phyllis Mumpower.
He is survived by two daughters, Sue Cress of Marion, Virginia and Barbara Hall of Wytheville, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Sandy Cress of Marion, Virginia; grandchildren, Emily Cress, Robin and Jimmy Buchanan all of Marion, Virginia, Kim and Ron Poston of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Melissa and Tracy Copenhaver and Shannon and Jenny Hall all of Wytheville, Virginia and Joe and Beverly Hall of Abingdon, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Brett Harmon, Allyson Firebaugh, Megan Buchanan, Lorrin Poston, Trey Poston, Caleb Copenhaver and Evan Hall; sisters-in-law, Geneva Brown of Marion, Virginia and Mary Carolyn Ratcliff of Chilhowie, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Harry Howe and Dr. Jack Garland officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel or at anytime at the home of his son, Don Cress, 116 Walton Road, Marion, Virginia and at the home of his daughter, Sue Cress, 224 W. Chilhowie Street, Marion, Virginia.
