Obituary of Carl Aker

RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA: CARL ATKINS AKER JR., age 69, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at his home in Rural Retreat. He was born in Smyth County to the late Carl and Lula Mae Aker. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy and a brother Claude. He loved the outdoors and especially farming. He is survived by one daughter Coreitha Carty and husband John of Newport News, Virginia; two sons, David Aker and Michael Aker of Rural Retreat; one sister, Rosemary Blevins and husband Lowell of Abingdon, Virginia; one brother, John L. Aker and wife Nancy of Roanoke Virginia; one sister-in-law, Frances McAmis of Greenville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hall, Jennifer Hamm, Coty Aker, Rebecca Aker; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend Debbie; and special pet Rascal. The family will receive friends Friday, November 20, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
