I was so terribly shocked and saddened when I heard about Mark's passing. I first met Mark more than 20 years ago when he was living in Richmond and he immediately became my friend. His sense of humor, positive attitude and caring spirit made him one of my favorite people. When I was traveling for my job and it brought me through Marion, I would always stay with Mark and have a wonderful time. We had recently reconnected and I was looking forward to seeing him again. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Mark was one of the nicest people I've ever met and I'll miss him always.

Dear Charlotte, Mark was a dear friend of mine. He was always so uplifting and just a real joy to be around. We worked together at the Smyth Co. Education Center and always had so much fun, he kept me laughing. I loved Mark and his family. How wonderful it is to know that he is reunited with them and that he will no longer have to suffer with any more health problems. Jack and I just visited with Mark a few weeks ago. We both admired his attitude about life. He was a wonderful person and friend and he will be greatly missed.

Mark and I were friends for so long that I can't quite say when we fist became friends. It's as if we were already friends when we first met. I will forever remember his laugh and his wit. I have stopped myself from complaining about an ache and pain because Mark never complained - not once no matter how badly he must have felt. Last night I kept finding myself wanting to pick up the phone and call him just to talk and laugh, but the realization would set in. Mark was lost without Jimmy so it gives me some comfort to know that he's with Jimmy, his mom, Brian and Cheryl and to know that he can walk, run, and play without the constraints of needles and wheelchairs. My 5-year old son, Tyler loves Mark and calls himself Mark's little brother. Mark kept Tyler in stitches with jokes and Mark's infectious laugh. My heart goes out to all who knew Mark and loved him. He was an exceptional person who has forever affected my life.

Mark, you gave so much of yourself to so many people. The world is a better place because of your being; your courage and faith an inspiration. You were a champion and a hero to my children and you enriched my life with your friendship. You reached out to the world and made a difference by alleviating the suffering of others. I find great comfort in thinking of you in heaven hammering away at some project with your dad, or dexterously balancing on a construction beam while telling dirty jokes. I see you united again with your mom, Brian and Cheryl, with dear Chloe by your side; I envision you perhaps even sharing a bourbon and branch with my dad--just as you and I have been known to do at the movies! My dear friend, your life made a difference. I will miss you beyond compare and carry you forever in my heart. Charlotte, Colin, Mollie-Blair, my mother and I send you our deepest sympathy and greatest love.

Words cannot ever express the hole you leave here on earth, my brother. So many stories we shared through the years (but most I can't repeat!) Today's sunshine came from your smile meeting back with your family in Heaven today. Give Chloe a hug for me, and save me a seat at Heaven's bar. May God keep Charlotte, Zeke, and the families close in His arms through these difficult times. Pam and I have you all in our prayers.
