Obituary of Margaret Britton

MARION, VIRGINIA: MARGARET ANNE BRITTON, age 90, died Thursday, April 09, 2009 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She was the widow of Julius A. Britton. She was born to the late Thomas and Patsie Reid Overman in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She came to Smyth County to teach at Sugar Grove School in 1941. She met Julius April 3, 1941 at a Grange meeting at Riverside School and married him one year later. They were both very active in South Fork Baptist Church before joining Marion Baptist Church. Margaret Anne was honored by South Fork Baptist Church by their naming the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class after her, which she had taught for many years. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and C. William Briggs, Jr. of Mars Hill, North Carolina; three sons and daughters-in-law, David L. and Cathy Britton of North Tazewell, Virginia, John A. and Pat Britton of Marion, Virginia, and Richard N. and Deborah Britton of Ashland, Virginia; one sister-in-law, June Overman of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Ross and Reverend Bobby Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. Burial will follow at the River Bend Cemetery in Marion, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the River Bend Cemetery in care of Margaret Johnson, 1805 Riverside Road, Marion, Virginia 24354, or the Marion Baptist Church, 1285 N.
