Obituary of Garnett Hall
MARION, VIRGINIA: GARNETT LEE HALL died April 26, 2009 at his home. He was born April 8, 1925 in Grayson County, Virginia to Noah Lee and Henrietta Hall. The beloved big brother of a warm, caring, loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Eugene Hall, Garland Ellis Hall and Lester R. Hall and only sister Carrie Hall Robinson Bourhill.
He is survived by his former wife, Willie Jean Wolfe Taylor Hall and stepson, Richard L. Taylor; two brothers, Marvin Brady and Marylyn Stamper Hall, New Berry Park, California and Joseph W. and Margaret Haga Hall, Marion, Va. He is also survived by seven nephews and three nieces.
Garnett was a veteran of WWII. He served in the United States Marine Corp in the pacific theater, August 11, 1943-February 1, 1946. He was employed as preparation engineer with Clinchfield Coal Company, Philippi, W. Va. for many years. He was a life long Lutheran by faith, serving on church council, the building committee and advisor to Luther League, St. Marks Lutheran Church, Clarksburg, WVA. He was vice president of the Kiwanis Club, Bridgeport, W. Va., where he was an active member for several years. Although Willie Jean and Garnett divorced in 1992, after thirty three years of marriage, their mutual respect and concern for each other enabled them to remain good friends. Rick and Willie Jean provided care in her home during his long, difficult struggle with Alzheimers Disease.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 8:pm at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home. The Reverend Joseph Shumate will officiate. Entombment will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Lawn Mausoleum where Military Rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Furnace Hill Lutheran Church, C/O Shelby Powell, Treasurer, 218 Goodpasture Hollow Road, Marion, Virginia 24354.
The family will receive friends at Seaver Brown Funeral Home from 6 until 8:00 p.m. before the funeral service. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chuck Rouse, Randy Rouse, Mickey Rouse, Justin Rouse, Logan Rouse, Glenn Robinson, Keith Hall and Reece Byrd.
