Dear Mavis, Harold and all the family, my prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time. I remember both of them well from my growing up days at Marion Baptist Church. They both were very nice people, dearly loved folks. I knew Mr. Slemp had died, through visiting back home, I had no idea dear Mrs. Slemp was still there. Many fond memories of them and the days at Marion Baptist and my heart goes out to all of you!

Mavis and Roland, I am just now reading of "mama's" death, as I always called her. Please know of my personal grief in reading this but also my deep appreciation for your mother and the joy she brought my life. My prayers will be with you. Your mother was one of God's special gifts to me. I wish so much I could be there, but they're calling for snow all across NC today so I guess I better stay put. All my love, Bill Slater

Harold and Betty Ann, I called my Aunt Josephine Blankenbeckler today to check on her and learned she had just lost "her best friend," your mother. Please accept my deep sympathy, Harold. I am glad you had your mom with you so long but even so, you are never ready to lose her. Aunt Jo said she had visited Ella Mae recently. Sincerely,Your 1953 Marion High classmate, Charlene Wassum Martin
