I worked in the pharmacy at JMH and have wonderful memories of Joe with the babies in NICU. My niece was one of the lucky ones that he once held in his hand and is now grown and getting ready to graduate with a nursing degree. He touched many lives and I pray that your memories will comfort you.

I have known Joe since he came into nursing school at VHCC in the class behind mine and worked with him at JMH throughout all of his years there. Joe will never be forgotten. He was a caring nurse and friend.I'm proud to have known him and to have one of his handmade afgans in my home. May God comfort you and give you peace.

Betty and Dyson family, sorry I did not get a chance to meet you. I am one of the pediatricians that worked many years with Joe at JMH. I have very fond memories of Joe, how wonderfully he cared for the babies and how the parents loved him. I do miss working with him. I know he is at peace in heaven. May God be with your family always.

Family: We are so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. Our son was born at JMH and had a lengthy stay in the NICU there in 2007. Joe was one of the many nurses that touched our lives in a special way during our stay there! Joe just had a special way about him with those babies and with us parents! Our "Naterbug" was Joe's "Sampson". We pray that God will embrace you during this time of sorrow and comfort you in the coming days as only He can. We will remember you in our prayers as well as Joe's co-workers from JMH in the nursery/NICU and OB departments, Joe was part of a special group of nurses that made a very difficult and scary time in our lives a lot easier, God Bless nurses like him.

Dear Betty and Family, I am a nurse that works on OB at JMH (nightshift) I worked with Joe several years in the nursery-there are no words to express how much he has been and will be missed. My mother-in-law Jane Walls also worked with him for many years in the nursery. There are so many wonderful memories of Joe--Joe giving all the sick babies nicknames giving them their own little personalities, Joe working hard with the familes of those sick infants to make them feel at ease in a difficult situation, Joe making all of us hand made afghans....I will Never forget him. I'm sure God has made a special place for him, with no more sickness or pain!! My family will pray for yours in this difficult time and always remember you precious, precious Joe.
