Obituary of Louise Warren
Louise Cornett Warren, 90, of Marion, Virginia, died on Sunday, December 28, in Marion.
Born in Marion on January 11, 1918, to Annie Laura Umbarger Cornett and Carl Cox Cornett, Mrs. Warren attended Madison College and graduated from Mary Washington College before returning to southwest Virginia to teach. She was married to Eugene Henderson Warren on June 28, 1941.
Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her husband, six sisters and one brother, and her grandson, Thomas Darcy Morris. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Judith L. Warren and Peter Hugill of College Station, Texas, Patricia K. Warren and David Halsey of Marion, Virginia, and Jeanne Warren and Domingo Ramos of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, Whitney Untiedt, Lacey Warren, Jennifer Morris, Kristin Untiedt, Ben Halsey, Jessica Morris, and Laura Hugill; and one great-grandson, Mason Halsey.
Known for her positive outlook on life, Mrs. Warren was an active leader in her community. She was a charter member of the Wilderness Road Garden Club; a lifetime member of the Royal Oak Chapter of the DAR; a member of Hospice of Smyth County and of the American Association of University Women of Smyth County; and an avid supporter of the Lincoln Theatre. A member of the Appalachian Girl Scouts, Mrs. Warren served for 25 years as a Scout Leader and organized the area's first summer day camp for scouts. She was an active life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, at First United Methodist Church in Marion, with Reverends Neville Mozingo and Jonathan Jonas officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Springs Cemetery in Marion. The family will receive friends at Seaver-Brown Chapel on Friday, January 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
