Sharon and family, I failed to sign Darrell and myself in at the service Sat. It was a beautiful service. I'm so glade Darrell was able to stand and state how he and I both felt about April as I was not able to at the time. Darrell and I talked about her courage and strength often as he would ask me daily if I had heard anything from her and how she was doing. He often told me she touched his heart and he admired her for her strength and courage to withstand all she had been through. Darrell had spent around 7 months at UVA years ago while Dr. tried to Dx. him and they were ready to send him to Saint Alburns for counceling when a neurologist found he had a tumor on his spinal cord which was about to paralize him. He has told me often he does not know April kept going that he was near the point of loosing his mind. April inspires me to want to be a better person and focus on the truely important things of life. I was amazed by her faith and hope that some day my faith will be as strong as hers was. I was fortunate to observe her display of faith and courage often, but one time sticks out more than others. It was the day she came to FMM to tell you that the Dr.'s here in the lab were sure she had LAM. She did not cry, she simply said she would just have to deal with it. I think April, being a mother herself, new how this news would affect you and instead of crying on your shoulder, she was the picture of composure, courage, and strength to protect and support you. Although April's and Chaz's time together was short, I feel sure the man he grows to be will still be a reflection of her influence in his life. May God bless and keep each of you in his care.

Sharon, Mac and family, I cannot put into words how sorry I am for you all and for April. I keep thinking of that scene in the movie,"Steele Magnolias", where Shelby has died and Sally Field goes off into a fury of emotions at the cemetery....about how, when it got so intense and hard, the only thing anybody knew to do was throw "Weezer" up as a sacrifice of sorts, make the moment lighter, if only for a fleeting second. I cannot imagine your pain nor your loss. I remember April as funny and bright and full of laughter. She came into the department once with this gorgeos little purse that looked like something else and was so proud of it...she was animated and smart and your child, your girl all grown up, your baby grown to woman with a child of her own. That can never be taken away from you, can it? Just know how much she is being thought of and how dearly you are loved in your sadness. I cannot fathom the depth of emptiness you feel. I can only tell you how sorry I am you have to feel it. She will forever and a day live on in Chaz. I know you will never forget the sound of her laughter, the way she tilted her head toward you when talking about some serious thing. The smell of her hair. The way her little girl self moved from a child into a woman with all the grace of a swan. I love you. Genie

My heart breaks when I think about what April and her family have gone through. My heart breaks for little Chaz who won't get to grow up with his mother by his side. I feel like April and I had a special bond after sharing time in UVA a few years ago. We both had chest tubes would visit each other in our rooms as we were able. We could relate to what the other was going through during those two weeks. However; I was lucky enough to get well. I cannot imagine what she had to go through since then. April was a special person and we'll all miss her. I wish there was something I could do to make it easier for Sharon, Mac, Emily, and the rest of the family. We are praying for you!
