Obituary of Norman Clay
MARION, VIRGINIA: N. LEWIS CLAY, age 70, died Sunday, February 17, 2008 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was an active member of Marion Baptist Church, having taught the Convention\Fellowship Sunday Morning Bible Study Class for 35 years and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Joyful Noise Choir. He had earned the honor of Eagle Scout and later served as Scoutmaster at Marion Baptist Church. He was always an avid outdoorsman. He was retired from the Smyth County School System, after 37 years of service. He was principal of Marion Junior High School for 26 years and served 11 years in the central office. N. Lewis truly based his life in Christianity. He was a devoted husband, father, son, teacher and scout leader who lived his life true to his beliefs.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Ann Clay of Marion, Virginia; two sons, William "Bill" Clay of Marion, Virginia and Robert "Ed" Clay and wife, Cheri of Holly Springs, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Clay of Marion, Virginia; his mother, Edith Clay; two sisters, Bertha Jo Green and Norma Jean Wester; one niece, Deanna "Cricket" Garland and husband Steve; great niece, Reagan Garland and great nephew, Parker Garland all from Davenport, Florida. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Marion Baptist Church or the Marion Baptist Church Music Ministry Fund, 1258 North Main Street, Marion, Virginia 24354.
