Obituary of Robert Ross

MARION, VIRGINIA: ROBERT ALLEN ROSS "BOB", age 72, died Monday the 31st of December at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Finis and Sallie Ross (Whisman) and three brothers, Norman, Ernest, and Ralph and one sister, Francis. He retired from the Army in 1974 as a Sergeant First Class. He served in Germany, Korea, and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Air Medal awards for his service in Vietnam as an Aero Scout Platoon Sergeant. Bob had additional assignments in Kansas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Utah. He was a member of Francis Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4667 (VFW). Following his retirement from the Army he settled with his family in Ogden, Utah where he taught Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (JROTC) at Ben Lomond High School for 15 years. Bob is a graduate of Weber State University. He and his wife, Dorris were very active in the Utah Bowling Association where he served as a president of the association. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorris Ross of Marion; his son, Robert A. Ross Jr. and Daughter-in-law Cindy of Clarksville, Tennessee. Three Grandsons, David of Everett, Washington, Jon of Clarksville, Tennessee, Steven of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and one Granddaughter, Melanie DeGeorgio of Clarksville, Tennessee. He leaves one great-grandson, Perry, and two great-granddaughters, Shayland and Jaiden. He is also survived by his brother, Ivan "Peanut" Ross of Sugar Grove, Virginia, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, as well as being a friend and mentor to many people he came in contact with throughout his military and teaching career. He will be greatly missed by all of those he touched. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Nouhad Melki. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where Military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
