Obituary of Grace Burkett
MARION, VIRGINIA: GRACE ARNOLD BURKETT, age 92, left her earthly home to enter into her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in the New River Valley Medical Center. She was born on August 12, 1915 to the late George M. and Lady Wassum Arnold in the Nicks Creek Community of Atkins, Virginia. She was fondly known as Grace, Gracie, Nannie, and Granny Grace. She was a resident of Wheatland Hills Retirement Home in Radford, Virginia where she was loved and cared for by a wonderful staff. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Marion, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, R.M. "Bob" Burkett; infant son, Bobby; and a daughter, Phyllis Steele; five brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Lemons of Dublin, Virginia; one son, Jim Burkett of Marion, Virginia; one grandson, Matt Dean and wife, Tami of Dublin, Virginia; two granddaughters, Debbie Lee and husband, John of Saltville, Virginia and Missy Jones and husband, Robbie of Marion, Virginia; two step-grandchildren, Cherie Lemons of Dublin, Virginia and Tonya Byrd of Salem, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Morghan Hamm, and Grayson and Hunter Jones; three step-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Sydney Byrd and Iverson Lemons; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Maxie Arnold of Rural Retreat, Virginia; one sister, Edna Henderson of Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Burkett of Marion, Virginia; and two brothers-in-law, Walter Jones of Atkins, Virginia and Herbert Henderson of North Carolina. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Michael Barry and his staff, and also Radford Rehab where she was receiving treatment from a recent hip fracture. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 17, 2007 at Seaver-Brown Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Bangle officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2007
