Obituary of Mary Carroll

MARION, VIRGINIA: MARY L. LOCKHART CARROLL, went to be with her beloved husband, Clifford William Carroll on February 19, 2007. She was the last surviving child of James and Flora Lockhart and was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters, and four half-sisters. She was born on March 25, 1924, in the Wallen's Creek section of Jonesville, Virginia. As a young girl, Mary looked out her front door one day to see the love of her life, Clifford, standing on a large rock in her yard. They were married on July 27, 1945, and spent fifty years together before Clifford's death in 1995. In 1971, Mary and Clifford moved to Marion, Virginia, to be with their only child, Shirley Janette Carroll Pruett and her husband, John Allen Pruett. Nanny and Pa gave freely of their love and their material possessions to their two granddaughters, Michele Denise Pruett and Teresa Carroll Pruett Bentley. Nanny was just as generous with her two great-granddaughters, Brooke Michele Bentley and Kellie Jean Bentley. She taught her family well: to be honest, trustworthy, and to always respect the other person. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Private entombment will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia.
