Brandy Smith posted a condolence
Saturday, September 8, 2007
My name is Brandy Smith, for those of you who don't know, I was married to Terry's cousin David for 13 years. I just wanted to say that I feel truly blessed to have known Terry and have him as a friend. No matter what happened or where he saw me, he always made me feel like part of the family and I will never forget that!! My daughter, Jessica, and Terry were also very close and his sudden death hurt her deeply. To both of us, he was a friend and confidant, and we could go to him to talk about anything and know that we were not going to be judged and he always offered advice and support no matter what the situation. His birthday was a few days ago and I just thouhgt I should honor him by signing the guestbook and letting everyone know how blessed we consider ourselves for having him in our lives. We love and miss you Terry. Brandy and Jessica Smith

I worked with Terry at Poe Oil Company many years ago when he was the truck driver. He was so funny and the customers loved him.He was also married to my friend Connie. I got to see Terry about a year ago and he was still the same happy joking person I had known years ago. He will be missed. I was so shocked to know he passed away I didn't realize that he was sick. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I gave this in remembrance of Terry at his funeral, several people asked for a copy: January 12, 2007 We are here to remember Terry. When I think of Terry, I can?t help but to think about how much Terry loved women! One way he proved that was by the number of times he was married. For those of you who don?t know me, I was his first wife, Bev. Terry was teased a lot about the number of wives he?s had and when he was married for the 6th time he jokingly said that now he had enough wives to serve as his pallbearers at his funeral. Terry, if this was the case, you should have married bigger women?. Some people live by food and water, Terry lived for the women in his life. A very special woman in Terry?s life was his daughter Cheryl. Not every father and daughter likes the same music but one of the things Cheryl and her Dad enjoyed doing together was going to concerts. She recently had a dream that she and Terry went to see Bob Seger in concert. Bob Seger was coming to Northern Virginia in February. I remember when Cheryl was young and Terry came to pick her up ? I would hear Bob Seger blaring way before I saw him. Terry always remembered me on Mothers Day. He would send me a card or call me and thank me for, as he put it, ?raising his daughter?. Even when Cheryl was grown and had kids of her own, he would still send me a Mother?s Day card and he would write about how proud he was of Cheryl and what she had done with her life. Someone this week said that Cheryl was the most positive thing in Terry?s life. I watched Cheryl this week help make her Dad?s funeral a special remembrance of the Dad she loved for 27 years. Cheryl ? you did him proud many times over! Two other special girls in Terry?s life were his two granddaughters, Cala and Bryonna. I asked them what they remembered most about their Paw-Paw and they both said ?He loved the Redskins?. They even thought about wearing redskin sweatshirts today in honor of him. Another special young lady was Terry?s daughter Angel. Terry was anxious to build a relationship with Angel. He often shared with Cheryl how hard it was to make up for the lost time. I watched Angel this week try to create a picture of her Dad thru memories of his family and friends. I hope the picture that she takes back home with her is of a Dad that was not perfect, loved music, flip-flops and shag wagons. He mostly just liked to joke around and laugh for a good time. Angel ? I think he would have made you laugh, too! Another woman in Terry?s life was his great-aunt Pearl. When I mentioned writing about the women in Terry?s life someone quickly said ?Don?t forget about Pearl?. Terry and Pearl had a special relationship. Terry took her to her doctors? appointments and mowed her grass. Terry liked to talk to Pearl and Pearl was very fond of him. Lastly, the most important woman in Terry?s life had to be his Mom. Anybody who was around Terry for very long, quickly knew that Terry was a ?momma?s boy?. I don?t think I?ve ever had a conversation with Terry when he did not have a story about Ruth. He loved to tease her about the way she talked and he liked to tell me about her ?senior moment? stories. I don?t know what Terry would have done without his Mom being such a big part of his life. There has been a lot more women in Terry?s life, like his sister Sherry, more wives and many aunts and nieces ? maybe we should all learn something from Terry and thank the special women in all of our lives, whether it?s your mother, wife, daughter, sister or grand-daughter ? let them know how special they are in remembrance of Terry!

I met Terry and Cissy at Karaoke in Marion. Between Cissy's laugh and Terry's sense of humor, it always made for a great time with them. I enjoy having been a small part of their life and love for each other. He will be sorely missed. Carry on, Karaoke King.
