Obituary of Edythe Gwyn
MARION, VIRGINIA: EDYTHE JONES GWYN, age 100, died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Edythe Jones Gwyn was born January 26, 1906 in the Laurel Springs Community of Smyth County. She was the daughter of Elias Adam and Alice (Goodman) Jones; the granddaughter of George Akin and Susan Anna Rachel (DeBord) Jones and Daniel Thomas and Mary Ann (Taylor) Goodman.
She was an active member of First United Methodist church in Marion and served on the Administrative Board. She was a charter member of the Smyth County Historical & Museum Society, Inc., the Marion Garden Club, and the Smyth County Mental Health Association; having served on the Board of Directors at a State and local level and a faithful patron of the Smyth-Bland Regional Library. She began her education in a one-room school at Laurel Springs and was a graduate of Marion College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Beattie Gwyn, one sister, Mrs. Lockie V. (Jones) Helms, her parents and grandparents.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Clayborne Beattie and Brenda (Anderson) Gwyn of Marion, Virginia; and Hugh Stephen and Barbara (Crowder) Gwyn of Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Five grandchildren; Cynthia G. Walker, Amy G. McNeil and husband Roger, Marjorie G. Naff and husband Joe, H. Stephen Gwyn and wife Mary, and Elizabeth B. Jones and husband Glenn. Four Step-Grandchildren; Robin Prescott, Randy, Todd, and Bryan Copeland. Nine Great-Grandchildren and nine Step-Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday evening at 8:00 at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Neville Mozingo and Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. Private Graveside Services will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service.
