Obituary of H. Scott

KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE: H. Andrew (Andy) Scott, age 82, son of the late C. W. and Carolyn Snider Scott, died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Church Hill Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Church Hill, Tennessee. He graduated from Marion High School and from VPISU, with a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering in 1944 and 1947. Andy worked as an engineer 39 yrs. at TEC / HDC, and was a professional engineer and was the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers Engineer of the year in 1984. He taught as a visiting professor of engineering management at the University of Alaska. He also traveled extensively over the world for the last twenty years. Andy was a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, member of Sigma Xsi, and a member of Kiwanis in Kingsport. In the 1970's Andy worked to help make Bays Mountain park a reality serving from 1971-1976 as the chairman of the Kingsport Park Commission. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Christian congregations of, Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and Preston Hills Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, Tennessee. The family wishes to express thanks to the faculty and staff of Asbury Place at Steadman Hill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Oneida Covington Scott and two brothers, Nathan and John Scott. Andy is survived by his wife, Helen LaFollete Scott of Kingsport, Tennessee; One step-daughter, Andrea LaFollette-Eade and husband Ted of Kingsport, Tennessee; One step-son, Lee LaFollette and wife, Janice of Oysterville, Washington; Two sons, Rev. Dr. Mark Scott of Newberry, South Carolina and Paul Scott of Zionsville, Pennsylvania. Six granddaughters, Dr. Cynthia Scott-Praisoody of Galveston, Texas, Elise Scott, Esq., Anna Scott, Monica Scott all of Columbia, South Carolina, Moriah Scott of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Adrienne Scott of Zionsville, Pennsylvania; One sister, Sallie Scott Carnham and husband, Robert of Roanoke, Virginia; Three brothers, Jake Scott of Marion, Virginia, Ben Scott of Weber City, Virginia, and Charlie Scott of Melbourne, Florida. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Preston Hills Presbyterian Church, 4701 Orebank Road, Kingsport, Tennessee with Rev. Barron Hopper officiating. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
