Obituary of Edgar Smith

TROUTDALE, VIRGINIA: EDGAR C. "BUCK" SMITH, age 74, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia. Born in Smyth County, Virginia January 31, 1932 to Ore Lee Davis Smith and the late Ed Smith. He was a longtime and faithful member of Troutdale Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, deacon, on the board, Sunday school superintendent, and was the church handy man and custodian. In the past years he had served on the town council and the fire department. Mr. Smith was retired from Merillat Corporation. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Thomas and Lucille Brown. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" McGrady Smith of Troutdale, Virginia; One son, Joseph Michael Smith of Marion, Virginia; His mother, Ore Lee Davis Smith of Marion, Virginia. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Ruth Helen Smith of Atkins, Virginia and Joe and Jeanette Smith of Marion, Virginia; One sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Edith and Don Halsey of Troutdale, Virginia and J.B. McGrady of Marion, Virginia; Several nieces and nephews including a special niece, April Mitchell and two special nephews, Joe Harper and Austin Bunn; and a special friend, Dianna Stevens also survive. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Scott Flippin officiating. Burial will follow in Troutdale Cemetery, Troutdale, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
