Obituary of Joseph Clawson
MARION, VIRGINIA: JOSEPH W. CLAWSON, age 91, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Clawson was born March 14, 1915 in Todd, North Carolina, to the late Charles Warren and Jenny Todd Clawson and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Joe and Doris ran the Lee Hi Barbeque that closed in 1962. He continued his life long love of automobiles by establishing Parkway Motors a whole sale used car business which he kept until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, June Elizabeth "Doris" Wolfe Clawson whom he had had a very active life with after their marriage in 1948. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Libby and Maury Gatewood of Chester, Virginia and Linda Susan and Jerry Willis of Castlewood, Virginia; One son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kay Clawson of Marion, Virginia. Five grandchildren, Ryan Eller, Jeana Willis, Kara Willis, Susan Clawson, and Brittany Clawson also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Olen Cassell officiating. Graveside Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Marion, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
