Obituary of James Coulthard

MARION, VIRGINIA: JAMES THEO "J.T." COULTHARD, age 90, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was born September 14, 1915 in the Black Hill Community of Rich Valley, Virginia to the late Arthur and Fannie B. Coulthard. After finishing Roanoke Business College, he was employed by Olin Mathieson, Virginia Lincoln Enterprises and U.S. Gypsum prior to joining the military service in April 1942. Mr. Coulthard served with the United States Army Air Corps in the European Theatre until the war ended in that part of the world. He returned to civilian life and was again employed by Olin Mathieson, Lake Charles, Louisiana. He rose to personnel director of this operation where he served until his retirement. Mr. Coulthard was an avid golfer, but his favorite sports story related to attending the 1942 Rose Bowl in Durham, North Carolina with a car load of his Marion associates. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Dobbins Coulthard; one sister, Marilou Compton; three brothers, Alvie, Holmes and Bill Coulthard. He is survived by one sister, June C. Overbay of Chilhowie, Virginia; one brother and sister in law, Bob and Page Coulthard of Sugar Grove, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Evelyn C. Coulthard of Baltimore, Maryland; Several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 22, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
