Obituary of Dr. Charles E. Cook
MARION, Va.
Charles E. Cook, age 77, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Dr. Charlie Cook moved to Marion in 1968 with a clear vision for his future and his family. He began his practice and passion of Optometry upon his arrival and spent the next 30 years helping his community. Charlie loved his work, but in his free time he enjoyed racquet ball and golf. He was always smiling, joking, and loving on a self-built street rod. Charlie loved his Lord and his country – finishing as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He loved his family/his world, his son Chris and his sweetheart, daughter Cori and the eight little ones who called him granddaddy. Charlie’s life was full – even in the 24 years he spent with his Francis Marion Manor family and routine visiting friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Virginia H. Cook; paternal grandparents, Ashby and Alma Cook; and maternal grandparents, Moses and Beatrice Hemby.
Dr. Cook is survived by his children, Cori Fullen and husband, Josh of Marion, Va., and Chris Cook and wife, Julia of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Gage, Liam, Addisyn, Connor, Carlyn, Greg, Caleb and Raegan; maternal family of his children, Cathy Cook, Edna Widener, Sharon Peterson, and Allen Widener; special family friend, James Hawkins.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the loving care Charlie received from the staff at Francis Marion Manor.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Cody Sturgill officiating and Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Burial will be private in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
