Obituary of Jerrill Dean "Jerry" Ashley
MARION, Va.
Jerrill Dean “Jerry” Ashley, age 74, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
Jerry was a force in life. After leaving the Brunswick Operation in Sugar Grove, Va., he proudly served 29 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded many honors of distinctions including the National Defense Medal, U.S. Airforce Commendation, Outstanding Unit, Excellence and Good Conduct Medal, as well as the Meritorious Award in 1994 for a computer program that saved our country millions of dollars. Jerry retired as a Chief Senior Master Sergeant, the 9th and highest enlisted rank in the U.S. Air Force. When he wasn’t busy being a hero, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, fussing with his wife Betty, and being a loving daddy and #1 papaw to his grandchildren. He loved his Lord, his family and his country. The force that was Jerrill Dean Ashley will be missed by his loving family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Josephine Ashley; brothers, Quincy “Snowball” Ashley and Richard “Dickie” Ashley, Jr.; and grandson, Eric Lee Hall.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Call Ashley; daughter, Pamela Ashley Hall, both of Marion, Va.; children from a previous marriage, Wendy Ellen Ashley and William Eric Ashley, both of Va.; sisters, Joyce Douglas of Sparta, N.C. and Pat White and husband, Larry of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren Michael Hall and wife, Casey, Olivia Hall McDonald and husband, Kevin, Kolleen Hall, and Anjelica Garcia; four other grandchildren from a previous marriage; five great-grandchildren, Hayes and Hadlee Hall, Eleanor and Madison McDonald, and Miracle Garcia.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Friday, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Family and friends are asked to follow the COVID-19 Safety & Social Distancing Guidelines.
