Obituary of Annie J. Gordon

RURAL RETREAT, Va.

Annie J. Gordon age 91, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.

Annie loved the Lord, her family and her country. She worked hard – never missing a day. The little ones who loved her sense of humor called her “Greasy Granny” and they had a song for her. Annie never met a stranger, and would help anybody. She’d cook and cook, but never sugar coated when Annie told it like it was. She was a long time member of Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church. Her fair and loving ways will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Franklin “Ern” Gordon; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn Anne and Perry Smeltser; parents, Corbit and Rosie Jones; and several siblings.

Annie is survived by her daughter, Thresia Howell; son, James Leon Gordon, both of Rural Retreat, Va.; sister, Doris West of Elliston, Va.; six grandchildren, James Gordon, Scott Gordon, Deanne Bonham, Jennifer Burkett, Cayla Colvin, and Annalisa Pennington; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and in keeping with her wishes, there will be no public service.
