Obituary of Cleo Lee

Cleo Cox Lee, 100, of Sugar Grove died Wednesday, February 25th, 2004 at her home. Born on July 27th, 1903 in the Bridle Creek Community of Grayson County, she was the daughter of the late Reece and Mary Blevins Cox. Mrs. Lee was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Sugar Grove where she was the "Mother of the Church" for over 40 years and was a member of the Shaffer Memorial Ladies' Auxiliary, as well as supporting the church she grew up in, Oak Grove United Methodist Church near Independence. She avidly worked to up grade the facilities at the Carnegie School in Marion and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in by her husband, Fred Jefferson Lee in 1971 and three sons, Fred Jefferson Lee, Jr., Ellis Letcher Lee and Clarence Franklin Lee, a daughter and two sons-in-law, Mary Frances and Harold Boyden, and Leon M. Boyd, a grandson, Phillip Stanton Lee, as well as one sister and four brothers. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and James Purefoy, Shirley Boyd and Melvin Gaskins, all of Marion, Emily and Nathaniel Collins of Plainfield, New Jersey, Lorraine and Randy Jackson of Marion. Three sons and four daughters-in-law, Robert C. Lee , Carl Joseph and Frances Lee and James T. and Elaine Lee, all of Sugar Grove, Barbara Hanley Lee of Marion and Barbara Ann Lee of Washington, DC . Special friends, Karen Baines and Martha Murrell. Thirty-seven grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 29th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Leslie Dean, the Rev. Kenny Price, the Rev. Andrew Arnold and Pastor Sue Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Independence. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 til 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel
