Obituary of Bobbie Calhoun Bowling
MARION, Va.
BOBBIE CALHOUN BOWLING, age 82, passed away Sunday, June 09, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.
Bobbie graduated from Sugar Grove High School where she was a star basketball player. She then attended Hiawassee College and afterwards began working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She left the FBI and spent time caring for our most precious assets, children on a school bus, in Fairfax and then in Salem. Bobbie loved people and spent time caring for her neighbors, friends, and community during her time volunteering at the Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, Elizabeth United Methodist Church, and the Breakfast Bunch at Little's Quick Stop where she loved to eat. When Bobbie wasn't helping people, she and her sister Dot really enjoyed their Bank trips. Her genuine smile and infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bowling; and parents, Ted R. and Katie Cassell Calhoun.
Bobbie is survived by her daughter, Carol Crowder and husband, Joe of Jonesville, Va.; son, Jeffrey Bowling and wife, Krista of Monument, Colo.; sisters, Iris Hermsmeier of Falls Church, Va., Verna Neeves of Bristol, Va., Glenna Miller and husband, Phil of Lansing, Mich., and Dottie Hubble of Marion, Va.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Elizabeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
