Obituary of Samuel Staten

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: SAMUEL B. STATEN, age 78, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Born in Penhook, Virginia, to the late Rev. B. E. Staten and Julia Muse Staten Brittian, he had lived in Los Angeles, California, for the past 52 years since he was discharged from the United States Armed Services in 1953. He worked as an accountant, was a Mason and a member and organist for the Vermont Square Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Mr. Staten is survived by one brother, Julius D. Staten of Brooklyn, New York; one sister, Johnette Brittian Shabazz of Marion, Virginia; four nephews; and two nieces. Graveside Services will be held Friday, July 29, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Muse-Tyree Family Cemetery, Rocky Mount, Virginia, with the Rev. Carl Tinsley officiating.
