Obituary of Edith Halsey
MARION, VIRGINIA: EDITH REEDY HALSEY, age 93, widow of Ben R. Halsey, died Monday, July 25, 2005 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Virginia. She was born December 30, 1911 in Troutdale, Virginia to the late Orley G. and Dora Comer Reedy. She joined the Marion Baptist Church on October 13, 1937 and has been found faithful in serving Christ throughout her life. She served as a Sunday school teacher with children, G.A. leader, Youth B.Y.P.U. leader, circle member, choir member and soloist in the adult choir. She believed in seeking the lost and felt the call to visit in homes of children who were not attending church. She endeavored to lead them to faith in Christ. Edith was a strong spiritual influence on her children and many others. In addition to her husband of 62 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Lester, Gordon and Hayden Reedy and one son-in-law, Johnny Crewey. She is survived by two daughters, Libby Hyland and husband Don of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Frances Crewey Detweiler and husband Frank of Marion, Virginia; One son Bill Halsey and wife, Mary Ann of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Two sisters, Clara Richardson of Bel Air, Maryland and Hazel Wagner of Elkton, Maryland; Twelve grandchildren; Libby Ann Adams and husband Roger; John David Crewey and wife Jane; Mary Frances Tracy and husband Gene; Teresa Halsey Weisenburger and husband Bill; Bryan Halsey and wife Carol; Philip Halsey and wife Cindy; Danny Hyland and wife Lisa; Warren Halsey and wife Beverly; Donna Hyland Mabe and husband Joe; Laura Halsey; Susan D. Reeve and husband David; and Jonthan Detweiler and wife Denise. Twenty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Ross and Dr. David Stancil officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Baptist Church, 1258 North Main Street, Marion, Virginia 24354.
