Obituary of Diann Ruth Russell

Marion, Va.

Diann Ruth Russell, age 72, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Diann loved her Lord and carried her Bible with her everywhere. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She was obsessed with cookbooks and cooking shows. Unfortunately, her cooking did not make the grade. Her favorite way to pass time was cross-stitching; and her favorite people were her grandchildren…they were her world. After obtaining her LPN license she worked in the healthcare industry for numerous years. Above all, Diann was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will certainly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ancil and Esther French Kirby; brother, Donald Kirby; and granddaughters, Kelsey and Kayla O’Dell.

Diann is survived by her daughter, Tammy Thomas and husband, Ricky of Marion, Va.; brothers, Harold Kirby and wife, Joyce of Trinity, N.C. and Mickie Kirby and wife, Betty of Sugar Grove, Va.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kirby of High Point, N.C.; grandsons, Jacob Thomas and Jordan Thomas; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Connie Demsey; and loving pet, her dog Emmi.

In keeping with Diann’s wishes, all services will be private.
