Obituary of Nannie Belle Greer

Chilhowie, Va.

Nannie Belle Greer, age 83, passed away the morning of Sunday, December 9, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Chilhowie, Va.

Belle was a devoted and always smiling wife, mother and granny. Her husband James, of 66 years, said she was the best person in the world. Mrs. Greer was active with her family – she loved to knit, cook and can. She mowed the yard until she was 70. She loved her church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist, and went as often as she could. The world lost a lot on Sunday. Belle’s family and friends will certainly miss her smile and gentle way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillard and Lucy Roten; five brothers; two sisters; and brother-in-law, Pete Kilgore.

Belle is survived by her husband, James F. Greer; daughters, Mary Alice Cregger and husband, Mike, Diane Anderson and husband, Jimmy, and Brenda Harris and husband, Scott; son, Jerry Greer and wife, Shelia, all of Chilhowie, Va.; sister, Ann Kilgore of Peach Bottom, Pa.; brother, Jim Roten and wife, Alice of Wake field, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Chris Cregger, Christy Armstrong, Jessica Turner, Sara Anderson, Jason Greer, Brianne McCormick, and Ashley Clay; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1183 St. Clairs Creek Road, Chilhowie, Va., with Reverend Dennis Eller officiating. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
